So Tell Me This…

January 29th, 2010 by

End of the month.  Time to take stock on the experiment.  But I need your involvement to help me make this something you’d like to read consistently and tell your friends about.  Questions abound, but let me give you some stats first.

Week one: 87 Views.

Week two: 20 something Views.

Week three: 164 Views.

Week four so far: 32 Views.

Okay, these are not huge numbers.  I’m starting this experiment from zero with no marketing, no Facebook access, no nothing other than emailing some friends to draw readers from.  So you can help build this thing and watch it grow.

During the third week, I emailed and pushed you all to tell your friends.  This week I’ve been offline on a family trip and not pushing it at all.  You can see the difference.

So tell me this….

1. What was your favorite story?

2. Did you like having stories extend over several days… this of course helps sustain numbers over the week.  But it’s no good if I lose readers who hate that.  After all, you’re the reason I’m doing this.

3. Somebody has already asked me not to write just about sexploits.  I’ve done a lot of dumb shit involving the opposite sex, and this stories stand out in my mind.  But that doesn’t mean I haven’t done a lot of other dumb shit.  What’s your take on this?  To me the stories are more about the toxic relationship with E… and the question I explore in these stories is who is really the toxic one?

4. What about the style of writing?  I’m taking a close look not just at what I write, but how I write it.  What works for you as a reader?  What isn’t working?

5. What about visuals?  I’ve got pictures to go with some of this stuff.  Particularly of a model who shot me down.  Wanna see?  I’m not posting nude stuff.  That’s not my thing, and I want to keep this as office friendly as possible.

Thanks for your input.

Things you can look forward to.  I’ve got next week’s story written and two more planned.  Your comments can help steer the course of the blog over the next month or so.  Plus I’m going to revise the look again.  The orange archive list in the side bar is neither appealing or functional.

I’m going with the Shadowbox theme.  I love the clean look and simplicity.  Philalawyer.net uses it.

For those of you writers watching this experiment to see how it goes, you can look forward to regular stat updates and questionnaires like this one.

After I get all the revision work done on the blog, I’ll be implementing my marketing strategy, getting more involved with other bloggers and the online community at large, looking for opportunities to post guest blogs on other sites, and trying to build relationships with some sites that have similar themes as this one… basically looking to befriend other Gen-X dumbasses.

Thanks for your comments.
